There are two ways to create a Test Clip manually. Both these methods will launch the Clip Editor.

The first way to create a Test Clip is to click Test Clip under the Create New section of in the Central > Welcome page.

Create a New section of Welcome page

The second way is to go to SOASTA Central > Test Clips, and then click the New button, which is located on the tool bar near the top of the page. This method is used in the step-by-step instructions below.

For more about test clips and their components, see Test Clip.

Test clips can also be created automatically as outputs of the Browser Recording and HTTP(S) Recording process.

If you want to create a Browser Action Test Clip, you should install the SOASTA Browser Recorder (Firefox only). Go to Central > Welcome. Under Download, click the link for Browser Recorder Installer. HTTPS recording and Browser Action test playback both require Installing SOASTA Conductor.

Setting Scope on Test Clips and Messsages or Browser Actions

Scope can be set for a selected object by applying Public, Private, or Local from the Etc. drop-down menu.

Click the Scope icon to toggle scope on a selected object. Additionally, scope can be set on an element using the Scope button (for all elements that have scope). Right-click to set a new scope from the action menu.

Unlike other objects, targets can only be public or local; because they are accessed by the messages or browser Actions in a test clip. Scope for the targets in a test clip can be viewed and set in the Included Targets list of the Clip Editor.
